This Tour starts with a Walking Tour of Bratislava’s Old Town takes in all the must-sees of this historic city. Starting at the elegant Opera House, our Guide takes you to the charming Main Square dominated by the medieval Old Town Hall and Bratislava’s oldest fountain. From the Main Square our guide takes you pass the Old Town Hall to another quiant square to visit Bratislava‘s largest palace – Primate’s Palace, formerly winter residence of Hungarian archbishops. The priceless complete set of 16th century royal English tapestries here on show was found in the palace during renovation by chance. The Tour continues through narrow winding alleys to Michalska ulica with the town’s only preserved town gate - St Michael’s Gate - towering at the street’s top end and burgher houses with romantic courtyards. The following Venturska ulica and surrounding streets are the musicians’ quarter where numerous famous music composers studied, lived or gave concerts, of whom Bartok, Liszt, Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven were the most famous. Afterwards, you visit one of Bratislava’s landmarks and its largest church – the St. Martin’s Cathedral, where during 270 years 19 members of the Habsburg family where crowned to Hungarian kings. The tour finishes back at the Opera House.

The Small Carpathians Tour
Our Guide takes you to explore the wine-making countryside to the east of Bratislava known for quaint villages, historic towns and castles. Slovakia’s largest compact wine-growing region starts already in Bratislava and extends for 60km to the east of the city. The vineyards that cover the south slopes of the Small Carpathian Mountains produce some great white and rosé wines. Some of Europe’s largest wine cellars are to be found in a mighty fortress surrounded by thick forests rich in game animals.

The highlight of this tour is the visit of the Červený Kameň Castle (the Red Stone Castle), which ranks among the best preserved in Slovakia and boast apart from the beautifully furnished period rooms the largest cellars in central Europe. Originally built in the 13th century as a royal castle on an iron containg rock - hence its name, it was transformed in the 16th century by the Fuggers, the German banking family, into an untakeable fortress to protect the stored copper against the Ottomans. The Fuggers mined it in central Slovakia and traded with the Medicis in Florence. Later the noble Hungarian Palffy family used its enourmous cellars to store wine from the region before being exported to the neighbouring countries. Afterwards visit you will also have the opportunity to sample typical wines from local vintners.
Note: Bratislava’s Old Town is all pedestrian zone, therefore our guided Walking Tour is conducted on foot.
Note: According to your needs, we can also suggest a tailor-made guided tour, which will last exactly the amount time you have.
